AWS BLOG ENTRY: 30 May 19

Good Afternoon Folks,
Mission: Catch A Fish In All 33 London Authorities, 32 Borough's, plus The City of London.

AWS BLOG UPDATE: 32/32 London Borough's Achieved... City Of London to complete

Attempts: 23
Fishing Time: 184+ hours
Travelling Time: 62 hours approx.
Bites: 1
Fish: 0

Despite all my efforts to catch a fish from The Tidal River Thames on sea tackle, tactics, baits in the closed river season. Extremely sad to report have failed. Finally given up paying travel costs, and buying expensive sea baits. The effort time put in would have expected something by now even an eel. However it would seem the further up river travel from the coast the less sea fish present. Tried really did, feel very deflated.

However not given up totally. Have been preparing with new tackle, cycling a 16 mile round trip, prebaiting an area daily.

The new reel is a proper beast a Penn Affinity II 8000 liverunner, filled with 50Ib braid. This reel is also salt resistant so can double up for sea fishing. The bait Coppens Giant 28mm Halibut Pellets, soaked in fish oil.

The target come midnight 00.00hrs 15 Jun 19...

You guessed it that Monster Catfish, the one that got away...

That's all for now, once again sorry for the lack of fish posts, all down to location. As mentioned before it's called fishing not catching. Hopefully one soon.

Bye for now 👍😎🎣

BOROUGH Of HARINGEY COMPLETED:
13th April, 2019
Mission: Catch A Fish In All 33 London Authorities, 32 Borough's, plus The City of London.

Lee Navigation, from Tottenham Hale to Tottenham Marsh, London Borough Of Haringey.

Good Evening All,

Firstly apologies for the absence, needed a short break, have been out fishing and pre baiting a few secret spots in the hope of bigger fish. Not to be... At the end of the day the mission/challenge is to catch a fish big or small, don't want to drag this out any longer than necessary.

Some have said its a shame not kept this mission flowing. Plan to get it done as quickly as possible, it's not a race by any means. And don't wish to get stressed by the lack of speed completing.

Today was a waste of time spending so long waiting for a big one, especially after having memory jogged this stretch of The Lee Navigation had a big fish kill not once but twice a year ago. Most of the the bigger fish unfortunately got wiped out. So glad to switch to maggot after spending so long on the worm. Was thankful just to catch a tiddler 12 in total. Better than past three attempts without so much as a bite in the winter at Alexandra Palace.

A great day out, lovely to be joined by my mate Stephen again, who caught plenty of small stuff as well. Further pictures to follow later.

Still on course to complete all 33 London Authorities, 32 Boroughs, plus The City Of London. Thanks for your kind words, and support.

Good Morning Folks,

AWS BLOG: Updated https://t.co/vxpz1LetEX 'Catch A Fish In All 33 London Authorities Updated.

The remaining 5 London Authorities will not be pre advertising whilst on the bank, not until successful.

Apologies in advance those wishing to know where fishing. Unfortunately due to unforeseeable circumstances and risks have been strongly advised to be more covert. You never know who is looking at this page and could be out making trouble. Comes with the territory fishing In Urban London. It's unfortunate that all missions from now on will have to be strictly Invitations only. Please don't be mistaken all those wonderful readers who have kindly come to visit whilst out on the bank. However not always good when focused on the fishing. All videos and pictures will be saved and uploaded if a successful session. Sorry must think own well being, security from now on, also need to protect the swims pre baiting, coming back to hoping for a bigger fish. Shall reveal all sessions once hopefully caught. Best Wishes. Thanks for visiting and supporting page.

5 more London Authorities left, hopefully a better stamp of fish from each one remaining. Thanks for your continued support, and patience.

ANGLERS MAIL FEATURE 2nd April 19
Good Evening All,

AWS BLOG: Updated https://t.co/vxpz1LetEX 'Catch A Fish In All 33 London Authorities Updated.

The cat is out the bag. Delighted to be in this weeks copy of The Anglers Mail out today. Thanks very much for the feature.

Not giving up the search for another Thames Catfish, even though will expect to wait a long time to hook another one if ever again.

In all honesty doubt anyone has fished this location in years, if ever.

Witnessed 2 Anglers the other night pitched same spot, whilst going over Tower Bridge on top deck of a bus. Expect many more now to follow. Not a secret squirrel and all can say is good luck to anyone having a go.

Looking forward to next weeks feature. Thanks Anglers Mail for featuring again. Honoured to be included in the best weekly angling publication.

Bye for now 👍😎🎣

BOROUGH OF HACKNEY COMPLETED:
30th March, 2019
Mission: Catch A Fish In All 33 London Authorities, 32 Borough's, plus The City of London.

Regent's Canal, Acton's Lock, Broadway Market, London Fields, London Borough Of Hackney

Good Afternoon,

Pleased to say finally managed to catch one today on the sixth attempt on The Regent's Canal, London Borough Of Hackney. Good sign weather and water is warming up. Worked hard for this one, would probably have had more once shoal moved in however was happy to settle for the one. Same tactics as Thursday night. Using a light quiver tip with a small Guru method feeder, slowly set to work building the swim, clipped up casting out into open water every 2 minutes, for the first hour. Followed by a cast ever 5 minutes the second hour, and every 10 minutes the third hour. The plan was to get a bed of feed down, wait for a bream shoal to pass through the swim, get heads down on a carpet of feed.

A very difficult session losing three feeders, absolutely full of rubbish, bringing in no end of stuff on virtually every cast.

BOROUGH OF LAMBETH COMPLETED:
6th March, 2019
AWS UPDATE 6th March, 2019 Mission: 'Catch A Fish In All 33 London Authorities' 32 Borough's, plus The City of London.

Eagle Pond, Clapham Common, London Borough Of Lambeth.

Never really laughed and cried at the same time. Let's just say had to phone not just one Friend, but two to console myself. Picture it now after 5 cold winter sessions without a bite on The Tidal Thames, was extremely happy to get permission to fish here today.

As fisherman's stories go couldn't make this up if tried. Came with stepped down tactics on the one 15ft Greys Tactical Float rod, using mini pellets, banded on a 20 hook. And my faithful Tony Fordham RIP Custom Bushwacker for stalking the margins.
Something told me was going to be in for a hard time on this little pond, so decided to move to Cock Pond a few minutes walk across the common. Then the float dipped slightly and slid away. Struck into what felt like a good fish, heart started racing, then the carp realised it was hooked, shot off like a steam train. After a good 15 minutes, taking it easy, not able to bully to much the carp moved towards island only to free hook diving into roots. Arrrrrr 😭

Easily the biggest fish on the end of line this season. No doubt a 20 plus. Gutted absolutely annoyed, and still beating myself up. For the record have had 16Ib carp on The Greys tactical, 2Ib hook length, handled with ease. This lump was a completely different story. The rod bent in double. Literally couldn't do anything about it different at time.

Ended up with a tiny gudgeon, and two carp smaller than my hand. On the bright side have ticked off another London Borough.

Special thanks to readers coming to see today. Mark for bringing chicken drumsticks. And Roger coming out his way to say hello. Very touched in all honesty.

Still on course to complete all 33 London Authorities, 32 Boroughs, plus The City Of London. Thanks for your kind words, and support.

AWS UPDATE: 6th March, 2019
Completed 24
Remaining 9

Thanks for messages of support, some concerned, won't be able to complete within the year. Due to the coarse river season closing at midnight 14th March.
Good news out of all London Borough's still to complete only three more are on The Tidal River Thames, which can be fished all year round!

1: Hammersmith and Fulham
2: Lambeth
3: City Of London

At midnight on the 14th of March the coarse fishing season comes to an end. Therefore unable to target coarse fish, using coarse tackle or methods. Which is illegal!
However if all else fails between now, end of coarse fishing season still have until 21st of June to complete Quest.

As long as not breaking the closed coarse fishing rule. There is nothing to stop fishing altogether, all else fails will be back with sea rods, targeting any sea fish that maybe willing to come out and play.

Can take a deep sigh of relief, knowing still on track, not beyond Mission Impossible... Refuse to give up and fail, determined to complete right till the bitter end, the last London fish is on the bank, gone to far to quit...

Goodnight 🐟👍😎🎣

29 Jan 19: In this weeks Anglers Mail, out today. Overwhelmed so much so shed a tear reading, seeing this evening. LONDON
BOROUGH OF CAMDEN COMPLETED
6th of January, 2019

The Regents Canal, St Pancras, Kings Cross, London Borough Of Camden.
7th Attempt, finally can scratch off another London Borough. Never blanked so many times in over 40 years of angling. Taken 5 attempts on the Regents Canal, and 2 at Hampstead Heath.

Really couldn't make this story up if I tried. Kept saying last cast, last cast, literally was about to pack up after 8 hours with not so much as a sniff. Using possibly the smallest float could find in box taking just two small no 10 shot, light hooklengh, and a 26 hook. Working the bait a single, or double maggot by lifting a fraction of an inch constantly to try and keep the bait looking active.

Feeding no more than 2/3 maggots every 3/4 casts, walking up and down, trying the far bank, middle channel and as close to the near bank as possible.

Not a single sign of fish movement, or activity. Then to my shock the float went under, almost fell off the stool, as whipped this little monster out as quickly as grease lightning. Only to be lightly lip hooked and fall off the hook an inch from the bank, a repeat of a 2nd attempt some months back, when a perch fell off the hook only to plop back in the drink.

That's All for now Folks, a long bus journey back home. Cup of tea, then bed, up early for work in the morning.

BOROUGH OF WANDSWORTH COMPLETED
1st of January, 2019

The River Wandle, Earlsfield, London Borough Of Wandsworth.
On the way to The River Wandle, London Borough Of Wandsworth.

Missing the car, back on London Transport, waiting for a bus. Looks like going to miss light, so will probably end up targeting the barbel, instead of trotting a stick float.

Ended up staying a little later than expected last night, hoping for another one, over slept. Hopefully scratch off another London Borough.

Bye for now, have a wonderful New Year 👍😎🎣
Hardly breaking the scales with this tiny chublet, or putting a bend in my new Nash Outlaw, three passed on courtesy of Dad, love Ya Pops ❤️ A fish is a fish, that's another London Borough complete. Yeeee Haaaa 😂

Be honest warnings from not one person but many to stay well clear from here at night had me on edge all evening. From the moment of arrival had stray dogs running around from a local gypsy site, kids on motorbikes, and yobs shouting. One even asked was I fishing, in most circumstances would have been sarcastic saying no, playing golf lol 🤣 However wouldn't want to upset anyone around here.

Started with a big lump of spam hoping to pick up a bigger fish, a barbel, chub or carp. Nothing at all. Kept feeding loose maggots throughout the evening. On the first signs of fish topping, switched over to the maggot feeder, and instantly got a take. Chuffed to bits.

That's All for now Folks, getting out of here. Goodnight 👍😎🎣

BOROUGH OF NEWHAM COMPLETED
27th of December, 2018

The Old River Lea, Old Ford, London Borough Of Newham
Ha Ha Ha not the one wanted, however thank you little fish for taking my bait. Possibly the most greatful little fish caught in 40+ years of angling. Taken four attempts to catch a fish in The London Borough Of Newham. Apologies for latest video upload thought had completed 23 London Authorities, actually 22, feels more like 222 LOL 🤣

After yesterday's 7+ hour return bus trip to Isleworth for only 2 hours fishing and another blank, delighted to at least catch something this afternoon, and scratch off another Borough.

Arrived to late in all honesty, only managed an hour before darkness set in quick. Was convinced another blank was on the cards, looking at how shallow, gin clear and bleak this stretch looked. Then soon as it got dark, to my amazement fish started topping. Couldn't believe it when the float went under. Even more shocked, sorry to say, sad may be, on returning a huge splash as a pike ate the poor little fish ☹️

To make the trip even more special met a local angler on his push bike heading towards Tottenham. He was full of information, and advice. Let's just say he doesn't do Facebook, he showed me pictures on his mobile that made my eye's pop out my head, not literally. Now very confident and keen to get back out on this river soon, knowing some secret locations. They are in there big pike, perch and dark black carp to be caught at a later date.
That's all for now, having an early night Zzz Zzz

UPDATE: This trout was caught, and released using coarse fishing tackle and tactics. Would not like to encourage anyone to fish out of season.

Nothing massive this evening a fish is still a fish. Small trout caught on bread. Great to be back on The Wandle, and out fishing again. Flu finally cleared up, just the ear infection, hopefully 100% fighting fit, and hearing will return soon. Certainly been in the wars recently.

Being without the car has been an absolute nightmare. Over 4 hours on the bus, christmas traffic didn't help. Always great to meet my fishing pal Courtney, and an added bonus meeting Charlie. Top Guys who really made the evening special.
